Finally an expert in the laser scanning, optics and associated software field writes a technical book on the topic - and an excellent book as well! Bill Benner has invented a variety of products over the years and this book is essentially an easy to read cookbook for laser-scanning, optics and other related subjects. The wide range of topics covered in this book are easy to understand with many diagrams and pictures which ensure that the key points are clear. This book should be considered a must-read for those with a profession or interest in the lasering entertainment and laser manufacturing industries. I imagine that the knowledge and recent advances that Bill discusses in this book will have a profoundly positive impact on laser scanning and other related fields. Thank you for writing this, Bill!

Full disclosure, I am not an engineer and I don't plan on building my own scanner so it's hard for me to judge its suitability to that reader - but it does appear to do a solid job on that front.Having said that, as an introduction to the topic, it's slightly confusing read that veers between an earnest expression of passion for geeking out on laser technology, advertisement for Pangolin and practical guide to selecting and designing shows - I found the section on projection to be of particular value.I would rate the book higher were it given a solid edit and re-organisation.

Mr. Benner's book is actually worth buying from a Engineer's standpoint. It neatly bridges the empty gap between what you'd find on the web/in data sheets about Galvos and the point where you would have to start reading highly technical engineering papers or dig into some really old literature. Not too technical, the explanations are crisp, supported with good illustration, and the math is kept to the absolute minimum. The topics covered are relative to design of a functional scientific instrument or laser show projector using Galvo scanners.. One of the few books that tells you how to evaluate how your beam fits on a given set of mirrors, and what to expect in terms of speed and inherent delays.

Excellent introduction and reference book for anyone in the laser lightshow biz, or anyone interested in the other uses of scanners. From bar code readers to the most advanced Pangolin and other brand scanners out there, Bill covers them all. A collection of very useful technical reprints at the back of the book will be of interest to any laserista - wiring diagrams, etc.And the Kindle version is the bargain of the century!Highly recommended.

Great Book for the Engineer and Techs that need to get up to speed real quick about the world of scanners. Very quick read, not dry at all. This book takes it slow and methodical to explain the details of scanners. I have read some laser scanner books that are like drinking from a fire hose!Highly recommend the Kindle download and I plan on getting the Paper Version so I can give it to my Techs to get up to speed ASAP!Saved me about 12 hours of book learning, took it down to 1 hour!

Begging for positive reviews then boasting about having a "bestseller" about such a niche narrow topic that there simply aren't any other books to be the "best" among. The author just rubbed me the wrong way, and more than once.
